"And what is your resolution, little one? How do you intend to improve yourself in the coming year?" Ebru inquired of the small black fox.

Fahne stared at his blank, unlit lantern as if he were asking it what he should say. After several moments of silence, the ebony spirit replied: "I want to be less afraid, to be stronger, to be brave. What kind of friend would I be if my friends needed me, and I left them to save myself? No friend at all..."

Words seemed to magically appear on the paper. With a silent nod from the elder, the wick of the lantern sparked and began to glow a warm orange. It slowly floated up to join the lanterns of the other aeniama.

The characters on Fahne's lantern spell "yuu" and "ki." The former means "courage, bravery, or valor;" and the latter means "mind, heart, spirit, or will."
